{"id":2959,"date":"2019-06-04T06:07:21","date_gmt":"2019-06-04T06:07:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/scan-score.com\/?p=2959"},"modified":"2021-06-11T04:55:04","modified_gmt":"2021-06-11T04:55:04","slug":"scan-into-finale-music-software","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scan-score.com\/en\/scan-into-finale-music-software\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Scan Sheet Music into Finale Music Software with ScanScore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this tutorial, we will show you how to scan your sheet music into Finale with our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/scan-score.com\/en\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">music scanning software<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, ScanScore.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finale Music Software<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finale is a music notation software that was created by a programmer named <a href=\"http:\/\/philfarrand.com\/biography\/\">Phil Farrand<\/a> while working with Coda Music Technology.\u00a0 Interestingly enough, Farrand is also the author of some of \u2018The Nitpicker\u2019s Guide\u2019 books.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finale is the most popular program currently owned by MakeMusic.\u00a0 It was originally released in 1988.\u00a0 Prior to this, there wasn\u2019t really a program that allowed one to input sheet music into a digital format. Finale\u2019s newest version is version number 26.\u00a0 This was released in 2018.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finale offers a free, 30-day trial.\u00a0 After this, Finale is a paid music software. You can create scores, and play them, as well as print or save individual parts. Many say that Finale is more advanced than Sibelius, but that Sibelius is the easier program of the two as far as learning goes. Let\u2019s take a peek at some of Finale\u2019s features.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the early 200\u2019s Finale developed a unique feature &#8211; They created something called Alpha Notes, which allows you to place the note names inside of the note. Finale also has premium garritan sounds,\u00a0 jazz fonts, and can import and export midi. This program is used by popular publishers like\u00a0 Hal Leonard and Alfred.\u00a0 It even has a feature called human playback, which makes scores play back less robotically.\u00a0 All these features and accolades but\u2026.no good way to scan music inside of the program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2006 MakeMusic did come out with a music scanner, called SmartScore Lite.\u00a0 However, this scanner was very limited.\u00a0 In order to really fill out your music software\u2019s capabilities, you should delegate each program for what it is made to do. ScanScore is made to scan, and Finale is made to create scores.\u00a0 That\u2019s why we don\u2019t try and add too much all into one- We don\u2019t want to compromise quality.\u00a0 So go the extra mile, and get the best software-get both ScanScore and Finale.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finale works on Mac and Windows computers- just like ScanScore does! So that\u2019s the history of Finale. Now, if you fast forward to today, and you can use ScanScore\u2019s program to scan and import music into Finale for final editing. Read on to find out how.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step By Step Instructions<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><b>1) Download the Programs<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First things first. Let\u2019s make sure that you have both Finale and ScanScore installed. You can find and download the programs by clicking the word <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finalemusic.com\/\">Finale<\/a> here<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the word <a href=\"https:\/\/scan-score.com\/en\/products\/\">ScanScore<\/a> here. You can also download the ScanScore app from Google Play or the App Store if you are interested in pairing your smart device with your desktop app. This app makes it really easy to take pictures of sheet music with a phone,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Pro-tip: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make sure you are using the current version of each program to avoid problems down the road. And, if you\u2019re using the app, you will need to scan the QR code that can be found on your desktop version of ScanScore.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>2) Scan the score<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you open the ScanScore desktop program, you will be given three options to choose from for scanning in your sheet music. Now, you can check for any mistakes that happened in the import process. You can correct those errors with our easy-to-use toolbar.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ScanScore can automatically detect potential errors! These will be highlighted by purple and blue lines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can highlight areas that need correcting with a simple \u201cpoint and click\u201d. First, find the symbol for the music element that needs correcting. All the tools you need can be found in the top-middle, gray part of the toolbar. If you don\u2019t see what you need, click the item most relevant to what you need. And you can also zoom in on a specific measure for a closer look. When you do this, both the original and digitized copies will zoom to the same place for easy comparison.\u00a0 Make sure you keep reading our blog for more specific tips on how to use our toolbar to edit!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Pro-tip: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a final check, have ScanScore play the music back to you using MIDI files. As it plays, you get a helpful side-by-side tracking of both versions. And always remember to save your file regularly to avoid losing any of your work accidentally.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>4) Export the Digitized Music to an XML<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you\u2019re finished editing the score inside ScanScore, go to the File menu and choose to export to a MusicXML file. You\u2019re almost there!\u00a0 There\u2019s just one more step in order to get your music into Finale.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>5) Open the XML with Finale<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This last step is a piece of cake- all your hard work is about to be rewarded! The next step is to open up your Finale music program. Once it\u2019s open, go to \u201cfile\u201d in the menu, and click to import.\u00a0 Then, select and open the desired MusicXML file. <\/span><b>\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As an alternate method for importing the file, you can also right-click the file and select \u201cOpen with \u2026\u201d .\u00a0 After you see the &#8220;Open with&#8221; option, choose Finale.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your file will be converted and opened in Finale\u2019s program in a matter of seconds.
