There are three options when it comes to purchasing our products.\u00a0 First, you\u2019ll need a Mac or Windows computer to get started.\u00a0 Then, head over to our website <a href=\"https:\/\/scan-score.com\/en\/products\/\">here<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0 You can see that there is ScanScore Melody, Ensemble, and Professional.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you purchase one of our products, you will receive an email with three downloads. Follow the prompts to download. While you\u2019re at it, head over to the Google Play or App (Apple) Store.\u00a0 Here you can search ScanScore, and you\u2019ll find our free app.\u00a0 Download the app to play sheet music, and you can try it out later along with me here in the tutorial!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step 1: Digitizing<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Digitizing your sheet music is really easy with ScanScore. Did you know that you can use any format of music? Yep, these will all import into ScanScore: PDFs, Images, Scans. And you can use our free app to scan in music too.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First, open up ScanScore on your computer. You will then see three easy-to-use buttons right in the middle of the screen. Let me show you how to digitize sheet music with these buttons.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Importing PDFs<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-33051 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/scan-score.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Importimagepdf.png\" alt=\"imp\" width=\"207\" height=\"121\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You will see this button here. You can select this button in order to find the music you want to import.\u00a0 The button will turn blue once you select it. Shortly after this, ScanScore will open up a box where you can select your source.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Or<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can use the file menu. This is my preferred method. Go to the File menu on the left-hand side, then select the third option in the dropdown (Import Image\/ PDF Files).\u00a0 Click it, and find and select your music. Once this is done, ScanScore will automatically digitize and open up your score. Voila!<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Importing Images<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can actually import images the same exact two ways we just imported a PDF.\u00a0 That being said, be really careful with the quality of images that you import.\u00a0 Make sure the lighting is even, and that the music has enough contrast to be read easily, that way, it will import accurately. Today, I imported a poor-quality image file with lots of ink flecks to show you what can go wrong.\u00a0 Uh oh! My flute part scanned in, but not my piano part.\u00a0 See how important it is to use a quality image?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-33053\" src=\"https:\/\/scan-score.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Poor-300x149.png\" alt=\"oops\" width=\"300\" height=\"149\" srcset=\"https:\/\/scan-score.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Poor-300x149.png 300w, https:\/\/scan-score.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Poor-1024x507.png 1024w, https:\/\/scan-score.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Poor-768x380.png 768w, https:\/\/scan-score.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Poor.png 1357w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scanning in Music<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-33055 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/scan-score.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/scanner.png\" alt=\"s\" width=\"211\" height=\"118\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scanning in music with an actual scanner is the most accurate way to digitize music using ScanScore. Simply use your scanner to scan the music, and then use the Import From Scanner button in the middle left of the screen.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">App to Play Sheet Music<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-33057 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/scan-score.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/App.png\" alt=\"a\" width=\"196\" height=\"120\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To use the ScanScore app, first, download the free scanning app from your smartphone\u2019s app store. This is really fast and easy to set up. Once the app is downloaded, keep your phone nearby, and open up the ScanScore program on your desktop.\u00a0 You\u2019re going to use this main center button.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ll have to pair your app using a QR code; simply scan and go! After this step, your devices are paired. Use the ScanScore app like a camera to take pictures of your music. The app will guide you through every step, including what angle to take the pictures at, and other picture-taking tips.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Opening an SS Document<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-33059 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/scan-score.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/openpro.png\" alt=\"o\" width=\"202\" height=\"116\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s one last center button that we haven\u2019t covered yet- and that\u2019s the \u2018Open Project&#8217; button.\u00a0 The open project button will allow you to open an ss (ScanScore) document that you have saved previously.\u00a0 You can also do this using the file menu, but using File&gt;Open.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step 2: Editing<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-33061\" src=\"https:\/\/scan-score.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/weston-mackinnon-3pCRW_JRKM8-unsplash-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"ed\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/scan-score.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/weston-mackinnon-3pCRW_JRKM8-unsplash-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/scan-score.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/weston-mackinnon-3pCRW_JRKM8-unsplash-1-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/scan-score.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/weston-mackinnon-3pCRW_JRKM8-unsplash-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/scan-score.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/weston-mackinnon-3pCRW_JRKM8-unsplash-1-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/scan-score.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/weston-mackinnon-3pCRW_JRKM8-unsplash-1-scaled.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any basic editing that the music needs can be done inside ScanScore. You can even use it to transpose now! I used a quality PDF to import Flute De Pan, for flute and piano.\u00a0 Once I opened the file on my desktop, it needed a handful of edits.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even though using images is the most difficult method to import accurately, ScanScore did a great job.\u00a0 All of the time signatures, clefs, and most of the hairpin crescendos\/decrescendos came through in this piece. So what\u2019s left to edit? When you import an image, sometimes the text is a little light.\u00a0 I need to add the words \u2018con brio\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-33063 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/scan-score.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/tex-1024x211.png\" alt=\"t\" width=\"1024\" height=\"211\" srcset=\"https:\/\/scan-score.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/tex-1024x211.png 1024w, https:\/\/scan-score.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/tex-300x62.png 300w, https:\/\/scan-score.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/tex-768x159.png 768w, https:\/\/scan-score.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/tex-1536x317.png 1536w, https:\/\/scan-score.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/tex.png 1593w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the upper right of the toolbar, you will see a T for text. Click it and then click the place where the text needs to be added. It\u2019s as easy as that! Once you\u2019re done, deselect the T so you don\u2019t accidentally add more text.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I didn\u2019t need to adjust any pitches in my import.\u00a0 But if you do, just click and drag a box over the notes that need to be transposed. From there, you can use the arrow keys! The toolbar is really easy to use.\u00a0 But if you want to learn more,\u00a0 follow our blog for additional tips and tricks!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After you\u2019re done with the basic edits, you should save the file as a ScanScore document (ss).\u00a0 That being said, if you still want to arrange the piece or change the format, go to File&gt;Save&gt;MusicXML.\u00a0 When you save your music as an XML, you are saving all of the important music information.\u00a0 This will allow you to import the file into a piece of notation software like Finale, Forte, Sibelius, and so on.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How to Play Sheet Music | ScanScore<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now that you know how to play sheet music from an image, pdf, and app, let\u2019s talk all about our sheet music player. And if you\u2019d like more information on our music player, check out our article on our PDF Music Player.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our sheet music player can be navigated by using the toolbar.\u00a0 It\u2019s as simple as three buttons!\u00a0 Use the first button (on the left) to play the music, the middle button to stop the music, and the third button to rewind back to the beginning of the score.\u00a0 And if you want to start the music from a specific note, simply click the note.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Pro-Tip: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can also navigate the sheet music player by using the spacebar.\u00a0 This is similar to shortcuts found in Sibelius and other notation software. Simply hit the space bar to start, or stop, the music.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So what does a score in ScanScore sound like?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ScanScore scores play back with a pleasant, midi piano sound.\u00a0 The sound used is crisp enough to know what is being played but mellow enough to sound pleasant for any piece.\u00a0 I know that I personally love to play sheet music with ScanScore\u2019s music player. I can hear scores that I could only previously hear by learning the entire piece from scratch.
