Why Export Sheet Music as an MP3 File?
Exporting an MP3 from ScanScore lets you turn your scanned and corrected music into audio – ready for rehearsal, practice, or sharing with performers.
It’s ideal when a visual score isn’t enough and you need a playable reference.
How to Export MP3 in ScanScore
Menu path:File → Export MP3
A save dialog will appear where you can choose file name and location.
The MP3 will reflect the currently open score – from either Scan Mode or Score Mode.
Soundfont Settings – Choose Your Instruments
The sound quality of your exported MP3 depends on the soundfont you select.
To change it:

Open:
Preferences → Audio -
Select a
.sf2soundfont from your system -
Try different soundfonts to match your instrumentation
Tip: Some soundfonts offer better realism (e.g. “GeneralUser GS”) than the default option.
Use the Mixer to Adjust the Playback
Before exporting, fine-tune the audio using the mixer:

Adjust volume per instrument

Mute or solo voices

Set stereo panning (left/right)

Test balance between parts
Access via: Window → Mixer
The mixer settings are reflected in the exported MP3.
Playback – Always Listen First
Before you export:

Click Play to preview the score

Confirm tempo, dynamics, and instrumentation

Make sure nothing is missing or off-balance
This avoids surprises and ensures a clean, usable audio file. Also use the Playback function in the Window Menu for metronome settings!
