Export MP3 from the Music Scanner ScanScore

Why Export Sheet Music as an MP3 File?

Exporting an MP3 from ScanScore lets you turn your scanned and corrected music into audio – ready for rehearsal, practice, or sharing with performers.
It’s ideal when a visual score isn’t enough and you need a playable reference.

How to Export MP3 in ScanScore

Menu path:
File → Export MP3

A save dialog will appear where you can choose file name and location.
The MP3 will reflect the currently open score – from either Scan Mode or Score Mode.

Soundfont Settings – Choose Your Instruments

The sound quality of your exported MP3 depends on the soundfont you select.

To change it:

  1. Open: Preferences → Audio

  2. Select a .sf2 soundfont from your system

  3. Try different soundfonts to match your instrumentation

Tip: Some soundfonts offer better realism (e.g. “GeneralUser GS”) than the default option.

Use the Mixer to Adjust the Playback

Before exporting, fine-tune the audio using the mixer:

  • Adjust volume per instrument

  • Mute or solo voices

  • Set stereo panning (left/right)

  • Test balance between parts

Access via: Window → Mixer

The mixer settings are reflected in the exported MP3.

Playback – Always Listen First

Before you export:

  • Click Play to preview the score

  • Confirm tempo, dynamics, and instrumentation

  • Make sure nothing is missing or off-balance

This avoids surprises and ensures a clean, usable audio file. Also use the Playback function in the Window Menu for metronome settings!

When to Use MP3 Export from a Music Scanner

  • Choir practice: Export separate voice parts for singers

  • Instrumental rehearsals: Quick play-alongs for students

  • Composition drafts: Share arrangements with collaborators

  • Archiving: Save performance references for future review
