You can not insert notes in ScanScore?

First set the bar lines correctly!

In Scan mode, unlike in Score Mode or other notation programs, you can not insert or change notes at will, as this mode is mainly used for correction. The notes are therefore always compared on the split screen. If a bar is mathematically full, you will not be able to insert more notes than intended in Scan Mode. In Score Mode, however, you can compose freely. But how can notes be corrected in Scan Mode if a bar is already too full?

First check that all bar lines have been placed correctly. If two consecutive bars do not have a bar line, all notes from the beginning of the bar to the next bar line are added together. This will not only show you an error message with the blue lines, but the playback will also skip notes that no longer fit into the bar. It is therefore very important that you place bar lines right at the beginning of your correction!

ScanScore offers a user-friendly interface to manage bar lines, ensuring your scores are professionally presented. This guide will walk you through the process of setting and editing bar lines in ScanScore. You use the barlines and repeats toolbar for this:

Step-by-Step Guide to Setting Bar Lines

1. Inserting Bar Lines

To insert a bar line in ScanScore, follow these steps:

  1. Choose the “Measure Bar Split” Tool: Click on the bar line icon in the toolbar and select the “Measure Bar Split” tool from the menu.
  2. Place the Bar Line: Click the desired position in your score to place the bar line. This action will split the measure, updating the bar numbers accordingly.

Tip: Ensure that your score is properly aligned and the notes are evenly spaced to avoid misplacement of bar lines.

2. Replacing Bar Lines

To replace an existing bar line with a different type (e.g., double bar line, repeat sign), follow these steps:

  1. Choose the new bar line type: Select the new bar line type from the toolbar (e.g., double bar line, repeat sign).
  2. Replace the bar line: Click on the existing bar line to replace it with the new type.

Tip: Use this method to clearly indicate sections such as repeats, codas, or the end of a piece.

3. Deleting Bar Lines

To delete a bar line and merge adjacent measures, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Bar Line to Delete: Click on the bar line you want to remove.
  2. Delete the Bar Line: Use the “No Measure Bar” tool from the toolbar to remove the selected bar line. This action will merge the two consecutive measures.

Tip: Ensure that the measures are balanced after merging to maintain the musical structure.
